Why most published research findings are false

A paper titled "Why Most Published Research Findings Are False" (2005) which discusses medical research, although many of the points ring true for many fields, cheers seed. Reminds me of this old chestnut "Is the scientific paper a fraud?" (1963) by Medawar.
Also, a ppt presentation on Goldberg (and other's) billion bit optimization, titled "Billion bits or bust".

Conversation between two computers

I found this interesting article which is a transcript of a conversation between two chat bots. My favourite line is:

ALICE: Are you alive?
Jabberwacky: Perhaps.
A: Why the uncertain tone?
J: Everything is uncertain except for five facts.
A: The whole universe?
J: And we both might just be some ones and zeros in the computer memory.

Jabberwacky knows what it's about!

Heuristic definition

Found a nice blog post with a great description of what a heuristic is (link).

The rest of the article is also good for those of us who like to procrastinate rather than get our thesis written!!!
